The Urban Edge Farm
About Us
The Urban Edge Farm is a 34-acre farm. There are 4 acres of certified organic vegetables and 16 acres of organic orchard. We will be planting 10 acres of bare ground to more organic orchards. The orchards are mainly for UPICK. We hope our orchards will be fully organic certified by summer of 2021.The farm is located about 50 miles east of San Francisco in the heart of the Sacrament-San Joaquin Delta, one of the most productive agricultural areas in the world. The farm are owned by Bob & Barbara Cecchini and family run by daughter Allison Cecchini Erggelet and husband Julian Erggelet and Angel Ayon.
The Cecchini Ranch has continuously operated since the 1930s, and Barbara and Bob have been running it together for more than thirty years. The Urban Edge is their newest “hobby” as they support and advise their successors on both the farm and its farm store.
Our farm raises and markets over 50 different specialty organic vegetables, herbs, and fruits, providing year-round employment. We practice growing techniques that keep our land vital and sustainable, such as planting cover crops, composting, and cultivating habitat areas for beneficial insects and wildlife.
Historically, the San Francisco Bay Area has always enjoyed marvelously diverse local food from surrounding agricultural regions, thanks to the mild climate and rich, alluvial soils. Despite decades of rapid growth in and around Silicon Valley, significant farming areas still survive on the urban edges of its cities. Brentwood is the largest agricultural region in the East Bay, encompassing 12,000 acres of prime, contiguous farmland that produce unparalleled fruits, berries, vegetables, nuts, and wine grapes. Brentwood is also legendary for its U-pick orchards, farm stands, and growing agritourism.
The Urban Edge Farm is located on Walnut Boulevard between Payne and Concord Avenues, in the middle of farm stand row. Our stand is the only one in the area that’s open year-round and features all-organic fruits and vegetables. We also carry jams, jellies, pickles, fresh bread, eggs, pies, honey, oils, vinegars, goat’s-milk soap, and other goodies—all locally grown and made. From May through October, our U-pick orchard features some of the most delicious, juicy cherries, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, pluots, figs, pomegranates, and persimmons you’ve ever eaten.
Bring yourself, bring your family—and come for an hour, come for the day. We’d love to see you!
